Its like Chock full o'Nuts, but different.
You might also say "A log was chocked well overhead in the narrow canyon, evidence of high water" But you might as well use wedged that way nobody gets confused.

After the tenth time I saw it, I knew action had to be taken.
In all seriousness, I think a good test is whether what you write down will make sense and not sound stupid decades from now. Understated, plain language has the standard of adventurous people for hundreds of years.
If I had a dime for every time I've written the word "chock" on the chalk board, I'd be rich!
